Welcome!

Hi, I'm Emily Miller, the owner of Resplendent Kitchen! It's great to have you here.

I'm the food photographer, recipe developer, and creator behind Resplendent Kitchen, a food blog featuring vegan seasonal recipes.

Whether you're vegan or simply curious about incorporating more plants onto your plate, there is something here for everyone!

When We Went Vegan

I live in Tucson, Arizona, with my husband, Brian, and our three cats, Oreo, Misty, and Freya.

My husband and I embarked on this vegan lifestyle together after watching the inspiring Forks Over Knives documentary in 2016. We've been vegan for nine years!

I had been a vegetarian, then a pescetarian; my husband grew up on a dairy farm in Minnesota. Neither of us would have ever guessed we'd be vegan one day!

My passion for cooking and baking began in my childhood when I first made cinnamon toast (really!) for my sister in Winnipeg, Canada, where I grew up.

From Operating Room Nurse to Operating a Camera

I worked in hospitals as a Registered Nurse (BSN) on medical-surgical units and in the operating room, bringing me to Tucson from Canada. It was a world of continuous learning, challenges, and professional development, and I enjoyed every moment. 

After embarking on the vegan lifestyle, I took a three-month online plant-based cooking course. The course required me to submit many photos of my kitchen creations as part of the assignments.

I was not entirely happy with the pictures I took in my kitchen under a skylight with my phone or camera - they didn't look like those in my favorite food magazines!

That's when my passion for food photography began. After learning to operate my DSLR camera in manual mode, I took several courses on food photography, composition, and editing. The learning always continues.

Since then, I'm honored to have won several food photography awards and have given a food photography workshop on the technical aspects of photography to local high school students in Tucson, Arizona, through the Joint Education Technical District.

More About Me

When I'm not making my next batch of sourdough or creating a new recipe, I'm cuddling with our cats, reading a book, or tending our herb garden.

My husband took this photo of me in Varenna, Italy. We have planned many trips around food. And if we end up in a gorgeous locale, all the better!

We've visited Canada, the Caribbean, Jamaica, Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland, and Costa Rica and continue exploring Arizona.
