How to Make Cherry Compote
If you've ever found yourself with a craving for cherries during the winter and want something deliciously sweet and tart, you're in for a treat.
Cherries - fresh or frozen
Lemon Juice - fresh, not from concentrate
Fresh, filtered water
Here are the simple ingredients:
– my favorite cherry pitter (Amazon affiliate link)
– large saucepan
– glass jar to store the cherry compote
Here's the equipment you will need:
Add the cherries, sugar, and water to a saucepan and cook over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
Remove from heat and stir in lemon juice. Taste and adjust lemon juice and sugar if needed.
Allow the cherry compote to cool before transferring it to a clean glass jar.
Store in the fridge for up to 1 week.
Be careful not to add too much water since the cherries release cherry juice as they cook.
Stir occasionally while cooking, being careful not to crush the cherries.
It's the perfect topping for dessert, or breakfast, or you can enjoy it on its own.
